Fireside chat with Peter Ziegler

Who is Peter?

Peter is an entrepreneurial mind with a love for IT and sales. He loves both people and knowledge. He’s a thankful father of 4, trying to do his best to be a role model for his kids and others.

He’s a professional for 30+ years in IT and for 20+ years in sales. He was never qualified for the jobs people offered him but he always came up with great results.

A printing on a coffee mug describes him pretty good: “When God created Peter he thought to himself: “I don’t know if it’ll work out but this will definitely be fun.”

He’s certified as:

  • Chief Information Security Officer (not active due to Bafin regulations)
  • IT-Risk manager
  • Business Continuity Manager
  • BSI IT-bsic protection practitioner
  • Evernote Expert

Tell us more about your role in Nürnberger Leasing GmbH.

Peters role in the organisation is that of the CIO and head of IT, thus he’s responsible for everything connected to a network. He reports directly to the board. Currently topics like IT security and compliance, communications and DMS fill the agenda.

What is the most difficult part of your job? But the most rewarding one?

Keeping the pace high so that we’re not falling behind in security or productivity. It’s very rewarding when external experts like what you created.

Is there anything that you would change about your professional path?

I’m thinking about changing my path either into the role as a IT-security consultant or a sales coach. The former has the advantage that there are numerous job openings, the latter is what my heart wants. That’s what I do best, I believe. I love to teach people and I love to help companies to choose the right tools for their problems.

What’s your key strategy for the development of your company?

Trying to automate as much as I can due to shortage of staff.

What do you think about the next period of time, keeping in mind the pandemic and the new business climate? How will your industry be affected?

Well, my industry will be effected no doubt about that. On the other hand I expect our turnover to rise steadily due to the markets, we operate in.

Please name a few technologies which have the greatest impact on your business.

New work, Remote work, VPN, Firewalls etc.

What books do you have on your nightstand?

  • The Infinite Game by Simon Sinek (He’s my hero!)
  • Never Split The Difference by Chris Voss
  • The Effective Executive by Peter F. Drucker
